Around mile 1,500 and before entering Oregon we got the pleasure of experience Mount Shasta in all of its glory for a whole week straight. Being such a huge landmark right in the path of the the trail cut back and headed south at times to navigate around the large piece of land in the way. Needless to say this was frustrating at times. To know you were literally headed back in the direction that you came from. It felt wrong. It felt counter productive, but it felt good all at the same time, as strange as that sounds. The views were spectacular, and the town of Mt Shasta, CA was such a pleasure to stop at and enjoy a “zero day” (a day of rest for the ole hiker legs). While in town I retired an old “Z Lite Sol” sleeping pad for a new “Thermarest NeoAir” blow up mattress pad. Quite the upgrade for the remaining 1,100 miles and 2 months I had left to go. Great prep for all the weather Oregon and Washington were about to present us down the trail.
