Chiberia. I was out taking photos at the lake in -14° weather, and along comes a guy setting up his gear. I take one look at his hat and know right away it’s @kbucklandphoto Both of us were there like many other photographers trying to capture the extreme conditions off the winds pushing the frost across the lake. It was such a surreal scene, and it honestly felt like we were a apart of some post apocalyptic city, frozen over in time. We lasted only around 20 minutes each before having to retreat to the car to dethaw. Which I am thankful for considering I took public transit down and there wasn’t a cab anywhere in sight. I remember my hands feeling numb, and it feeling like my brain was freezing over. This scene really helped set the tone for some of the challenges mother nature was about to present to Chicago in 2014, additionally helping to prepare me for any of the cold conditions and snow I was about to encounter along my upcoming thru-hike on The Pacific Crest Trail.
